I have a book called "Daddy's Ties" by Shirley Botsford, put out by Chilton Book Company. It has all kinds of patterns in it: Log Cabin, fans, crazy quilt, bow tie and more. The crazy quilt block is really nice. The best way I have found to work with ties is to iron a lightweight fusible interfacing onto the back of the tie,and then you can cut it into any shape you want without it stretching, since ties are cut on the bias.

Hi...I'm looking for a pattern for a quilt for my brother. All he can tell me about it is: He saw it in 1976 in a magazine. It was supposedly the top quilt commemerating the 200th anniversary of our country. It had blue stars in some of the blocks and red and white stripes in the other blocks. Hi---not looking for a pattern as much as I am looking for a picture of color combinations of a quilt I want to make. Sunshine and Shadow is actually a variation of the Trip Around the World pattern. It is made entirely of same sized squares and arranged with light and dark rows forming a diamonds. Here is an example of a sunshine and shadow:

fOR ALL OF YOU OUT THERE WHO ARE DESPERATE TO RE-CREATE THE FIFTIES AND EARLY SIXTIES, HERE IS AN IDEA TO TRY. bUY A CIRCULAR TABLECLOTH IN A SUITABLE FABRIC. fOLD IN HALF AND THEN FOLD AGAIN UNTIL YOU HAVE A POINT AT ONE END AND A CURVED EDGE AT THE OTHER END. mEASURE THE WAIST OF THE PERSON WHO WILL BE WEARING IT, AND ALLOWING FOR THE FACT THAT THE FABRIC IS FOLDED, DRAW A CURVED LINE BELOW THE POINT WHICH WILL CORRESPOND (AS NEAR AS POSSIBLE) TO THE PERSONS MEASUREMENTS.
