March Newsletter 2005

It has been a busy winter thus far with lots of snow here in New Hampshire, however the days are getting warmer and the March sun suggests that spring is just around the corner. I certainly hope so!

I've been working on the editing of my next book, Carol Doak's Simply Sensational 9-Patch Stars due out in September 2005. I am delighted with how all the parts are coming together to provide so many paper-pieced star opportunities. It still boggles my mind that a relatively few simple paper foundation pieced units can produce over 5,000 combinations. This book will feature a 9-Patch Star Block for each state and a variety of quilt projects ranging from wall quilt size to bed quilt size. Can you tell that I am excited?

My newest fabric collection, Painted Forest, is now available from Timeless Treasures fabrics. I spent some time last month making six small quilts using block designs from 300 Paper-Pieced Quilt Blocks and featuring different color ways from the Painted Forest collection. Even I was surprised how quickly these small quilts were made and how much fun it was to use this new fabric collection. You can see the entire line at the Timeless Treasures website at http://ttfabrics.com. There is also a free pattern from me for this collection that you can download at their website.

The response to my Carol Doak's Foundation Paper has been wonderful. I am pleased to let you know that the packaging for this paper has been changed to a shrink-wrap package so the paper cannot shift in the package.

I continue to hear from many of you via email sharing your wonderful success stories making projects from my books. As a teacher and designer, nothing pleases me more than to see students and readers embrace the designs and make them their own.

Just a heads up that I am now down to my last case of the Easy Paper-Pieced Keepsake Quilts books and the Easy Reversible Vests books so if these two titles are ones that you thought you would like to add to your library, now is the time to order before they are no longer available.

As I mentioned in one of my earlier newsletter, this is my 25th year teaching quiltmaking so it is an exciting year. To add to this excitement, I was thrilled to receive a letter from The Professional Quilter Magazine informing me that I was nominated as 2005 Professional Quilter of the Year! Wow, what an honor!!!!

In the next few months I will be heading to Vermont, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Washington, Oregon and Nebraska to lecture and teach. I am also going to Paducah this year after missing it the past few years. This is one trip I try to make each year to go with my best friend and just play!

Until next time,

All the best,
Carol Doak
